AVC Men's Soccer lost their second-round playoff matchup to the Rio Hondo Roadrunners 2-1. The Marauders broke new ground as the second-round match was the furthest they have advanced in school history in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs.
Luis Avila scored early for AVC in the first six minutes with an assist from Chisom Ene. Rio Hondo scored to tie it ten minutes later. The score remained 1-1 until the 86th minute when the Roadrunners found the net for the game-winning goal.
AVC finished the season with an 8-7-7 overall record (6-2-2 in conference). The historic season included a first-round win at Oxnard (5-4 on penalty kicks), which was the first playoff win in program history in its third consecutive playoff appearance, and it came against the defending state champions.
Chisom Ene led the Marauders in goals on the season with 10, followed by Alex Araiza with 9. Luis Avelar Flores had 40 saves on the season, including two diving saves in the second half against Rio Hondo. The Marauders look forward to improving upon the success they have built heading into the offseason and next year.
