AVC Men's Soccer won a Western State Conference battle against the Citrus Owls on Friday. The Owls came in with a first-place 3-0 Western State-South Conference record. After the 3-2 win, the Marauders are now in first place at 3-0-1 in the conference.
AVC brought a sense of urgency from the first kick as they scored twice early. Alex Araiza scored an unassisted goal, followed by Luis Avila, who found the net with an assist from Chisom Ene. Araiza and Ene lead the Marauder in goals with 8 each on the season.
Citrus scored once before the break and again early in the second period to tie it at 2-2. But the Marauders kept the pressure on as Araiza scored his second goal, giving AVC the 3-2 lead.
The Owls accumulated several shots late, but the Marauder defense held tight for the win. Wilmer Saucedo Garcia recorded two saves on the day.
The Marauders, now 3-0-2 in conference and 5-4-5 overall, will face Bakersfield on the road before returning home to battle LA Pierce on Friday, Oct. 27.
