Marauders Men's Soccer beat the Santa Monica Corsairs 3-2 in an intense contest on Friday.
AVC struck first when Victor Jimenez scored an unassisted goal. It appeared that the Marauders might run away with the match when Bryan Lima scored off an assist from Jimenez shortly after to make it 2-0.
The Corsairs came back to score in the 48:00 minute, making it 2-1. Santa Monica kept the pressure on, but AVC's defense held strong until Chris Romero extended the lead to 3-1.
Santa Monica wouldn't give up as they pulled within a goal again late in the second half. Down 3-2 with little time left, the Corsairs had a chance to tie the game with a penalty kick. AVC goalie Daniel Pantaleon would deny the tie with a diving save to seal the win.
Bryan Lima (7) and Victor Jimenez (4) continue to lead the AVC in goals on the season. Pantaleon leads in saves with 28. The Marauders (6-1-2) are on the road at Norco, Santa Barbara, and Glendale before returning home to face Bakersfield on October 15.
