LANCASTER - The Marauder men's soccer team suffered an early first half onslaught by visiting Chaffey College and lost 3-1 to the Panthers, Friday afternoon at Maraduers Stadium.
Chaffey (5-2-1) scored in the first two minutes of the game at 1:46 following a goal by Christian Fernandez which was set up by Gio Perez giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Only five minutes later Perez found Gustavo Chavez at 7:00 who found the goal which gave Chaffey a 2-0 lead.
"With preseason coming near the end it was our goal to make sure we played playoff bound teams to be ready for conference. Scheduling Pasadena, Santa Monica, Chaffey, El Camino and Oxnard were exactly what we needed to prepare for an opportunity at a conference run," AVC head coach Jerry Stupar said. "Teaching advance tactics and systems of play based upon match ups was our goal while determining position rotations and depth chart. Today we came out very flat and had two major errors in the first five minutes which cost us early. We won the second half on possession and shots on goal but was unable to convert."
Jose Mojica scored his eighth goal of the season at 17:31 in the first half, however, the Marauders (5-4) still trailed 3-1 at that point. Mojica's goal ranks him tied for second in the state in goals.
