PHILLIPS NARROWLY MISSES CUT FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ethan Phillips represented Antelope Valley College at the 2025 3C2A Southern California Regionals as an individual, where he shot a 74 in his first round and was two over in his second round with five holes to go, but gave a few back at the end to finish with a 79. He missed punching a ticket to the State Championships by four strokes.
"We came in with a game plan, and Coach Williamson and Ethan really managed the course well together. Ethan showed mental toughness, staying focused from shot to shot for 11 straight grueling hours of golf," said head coach Brad Hazard.
From tee to green, Phillips outplayed his opponents, but wasn't able to get many good birdie opportunities to drop. Unfortunately, he had a few bad breaks and two bad holes, ultimately costing him the opportunity to move on to state.
"We are thankful that he chose to play for our program. He has shown tremendous growth on and off the course over the past two years and really exhibits what our golf team wants to see out of our student athletes," remarked Hazard.
Ethan will continue his golf and academic career at Simpson University.
