MEN'S GOLF COMPETES AT SANTA MARIA AND RIO BRAVO
The Marauder Men's Golf team has remained competitive in a couple of away course matches as they look forward to the state preview tournament.
The Marauder Men's Golf team has remained competitive in a couple of away course matches. Connor Jazwiecki shot a team-best 76 at last week's tournament hosted by Allan Hancock College at Santa Maria Country Club. Tanner Klundt shot a 78, followed by Ethan Phillips's 82. Drew Degeorge shot 87, and Luke Luke Carnegie shot 90. Jazwiecki had three birdies and tied for the seventh-best score of the day. As a team, AVC shot 10 shots better than their opening round tournament at River Ridge.
"Connor had a disappointing start to the season and has been inconsistent with his play, so I was very pleased with his performance. He came in prepared and was able to execute the game plan today," commented coach Hazard.
"It really feels good to put together a round where I shot well, especially since I've always known that it's something I could do. The feeling is great, and I plan to use that as motivation to keep working on my game and try to shoot the best I can," Jazwiecki remarked.
This week's So Cal Regionals preview tournament took the Marauders to Rio Bravo Country Club for a great opportunity to play a competitive round at the course where regionals will be held. Drew Degeorge led AVC with a 77. Tanner Klundt shot a 79, while Connor Jazwiecki recorded an 89 on the day. The Marauders have four players who have the potential to make the playoffs, but Tanner is the only player who has shown consistency from week to week thus far.
"I was happy to see Drew put it together today. He has worked hard over the offseason and has the game to compete with the top players in this league. He was hitting fairways from the tees, and although he struggled with iron play, he was able to rely on his short game to post a good score today." said head coach Brad Hazard regarding their outing at Rio Bravo.
Next up for the Marauders is a State Preview Tournament at Sand Piper Golf Club in Santa Barbara.
