HAND, WEIS POSSIBLY GEARING UP FOR REGIONALS

SANTA MARIA - Jonathan Hand and Mike Weis both shot a round of 77 and the Marauder golf team finished fifth Monday afternoon at the Santa Maria Country Club hosted by Allan Hancock College.

College of the Canyons finished in first place (366), with all but one of its six golfers shooting in the 70s. Jay Kim (71) and Matt Cheng (72) finished 1-2 overall for COC.

"I'm feeling good. The first match (of the season) was a ridiculous blow up. It's tough because I've been on the cusp of playing good golf. I'm having trouble putting it all together," Hand said. "I gained some confidence last week in San Dimas. I feel like I'm playing a lot better golf now. I'm hoping to keep it going for the next three tournaments. Even though I didn't play the greatest yesterday, I'm still right there. I just need to play consistently solid. All it takes is one break through round and I'm hoping to get that next week or the week after."

Since shooting a 90 in the opening match of the season, Hand has shot in the 70s each match since.

"As a team we aren't getting the results we should be at this stage of the season," AVC head coach Brad Hazard said. "It was good to see Mike (Weis) get back in the 70s. With a strong finish to the season, Mike and Jon have a shot at regionals."

Hand said that these next three matches will be the sign of who makes it to Southern California Regionals.

Ventura (374) finished second followed by Santa Barbara (379), Citrus (388), Allan Hancock (403), AVC (415), Glendale (417) and Bakersfield (458).
