MARAUDER GOLF HAS BEST FINISH OF SEASON AT HOST MATCH

PALMDALE - The Marauder golf team shot the best it has all season as it hosted a Western States Conference match Monday afternoon at Antelope Valley Country Club.

The Marauders finished tied for second with Ventura College with a total team score of 413, but the Pirates finished ahead of AVC as their sixth place finisher Matt Sieger +15 (87) finished better than the Marauders' sixth place finisher, Jagger Ruffins +18 (90), dropping AVC to third place.

Jonathan Hand has consistently remained in the high 70s this season and finished with a +6 (78). Teammate Noah Roy shot well only one stroke behind Hand. Mike Weis had a disappointing round of +12 (84) on the afternoon, tied with Michael Draper.

"Our players were confident being at home, but with the expectation to play well comes some added pressure," AVC head coach Brad Hazard said. "I thought the guys came through though in the most challenging weather conditions of the season. Noah (Roy) had three birdies and was able to get up and down for par on many of the holes. He has been stuck in the low 80s most of the season, so it was good to see him break out."

As expected, just as it has done predominately most of the season, College of the Canyons finished first with a team score of 394. Santa Barbara City College uncharacteristically finished in fourth place. The Vaqueros' Manny Manzone had the low score of the day +1 (73), but not other player on his team shot below 80.

Ben Cambell and Cammy Boomer each shot +5 (77) for COC. The worst score of the day for the Cougars was a +10 (82) by Jason McGinness. Only seven golfers the entire day shot a sub 80 round.
