AVC Men's Basketball went 2-1 over the weekend en route to a 3rd-place finish in the 2023 Gregg Anderson Memorial Basketball Tournament. It was AVC's 71st time hosting the annual tournament.
The Marauders picked up an 88-72 win over LA Pierce on Friday, an 84-82 loss to Palo Verde in the final seconds of Saturday's matchup, and a 107-98 win over Ventura on Sunday.
Antelope Valley was led by point guard Xa Landry, who totaled a team-high 48 points and a team-high 12 assists. The freshman from Amarillo, Texas, also had 13 rebounds and 8 steals in the tournament. Sophomore Tre Hawkins scored 48 points along with 11 rebounds and a team-high 9 steals, while Josh Montiano recorded 35 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds.
Ryan Frazer led the Marauders in rebounds with 25 in addition to his 33 points and 4 assists. Omari Mathis scored 34 points, while freshman Malik Larane scored 41 points off the bench, including a game-high 24 points against LA Pierce. Malachi Jones also came off the bench to contribute 22 points.
Pasadena City College went on to win the tournament, while Palo Verde took second place.
The Marauders are now 3-5 and will travel to College of the Sequoias before returning home to face LA Harbor on September 16 at 5:00 pm.
