AVC Men's Basketball wore commemorative t-shirts out of respect for NBA legend Kobe Bryant as they warmed up for Thursday's game against LA Valley College. Many players were still affected by the loss of Bryant as it was the first Marauder game since the NBA star's tragic death on Sunday, January 26th.
AVC got on the board first, but that was the only lead they would see in the first half as they trailed by as many as 17 points. The Marauders rallied behind 14 points from Justin Hill and closed to within three to end the half down 40-37. Hill finished with a game-high 19 points, along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Antelope Valley came within a point but was never able to take the lead in the second half as they were outscored 44-30. Da'Jour Lewis had 16 points and a game-high 8 rebounds, while Julian Williams finished with 11 points.
Tyriq Perry had 8 points, and 7 rebounds and Dion Troupe ended with 7 points. Mekhi Smith led Antelope Valley with 5 assists.
The Marauders shot 37.5% from the field as the Monarchs shot 44.4%. AVC now has two games on the road at Canyons, and West LA, and will return home on February 8th to face Santa Monica College.
