COMPTON - The Marauder men's basketball team had no problems with Mt. SAC in the opening round of the Compton Tartar Classic wit an easy 77-61 victory over the Mounties, Monday afternoon.
With the victory, AVC will face conference rival Citrus on Tuesday in the semifinals of the tournament. The Owls are ranked No. 7 in the state and defeated the Marauders twice last season, but AVC won the final meeting propelling it to the Elite Eight in the state playoffs.
Jamar Kemp flirted with a triple-double to help lead AVC off the bench. He finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. As a team the Marauders had 18 assists on their 27 field goals. D'Mauria Jones led AVC with 19 points. Osi Nwacukwu added 15 points for the Marauders.
The first semifinal game between AVC and Citrus will be played at 5pm followed by the other when Chaffey faces Glendale at 7pm.
