With the Marauder men's basketball opening round state playoff victory against Santa Monica College, AVC will travel for the second round against third-seeded Saddleback.
The Marauders lost to the Gauchos 82-80 earlier this season at Marauder Gymnasium.
AVC had to hold off Santa Monica 89-80 on Wednesday behind Jailen Gill's 18 points and 16 rebounds.
The Corsairs (13-14) jumped out to a 26-19 lead midway through the first half, but that would be their last. A 13-0 run by the Marauders helped them get back on top and lead 42-35 at halftime.
Santa Monica tried to remain close, but AVC was too tough and built its largest lead 89-76 with only 1:49 remaining in the game.
