MARAUDER MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS BATTLE OF UNDEFEATEDS AND OWN TOURNAMENT IN BIZARRE FASHION - 70--66
In a bizarre finish that saw host Antelope Valley College hit five of heir six free throws with 0.9 seconds left in the game, the Marauders won their 14th Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament, while ending San Bernardino Valley's two year reign with a 70-66 win.
The Marauders had fought back from a 10 point deficit with 3:26 left, as they have so often done this season, with a big 9-0 run over the next two minutes.
That brought the score to 62-61 Wolverines with about a minute to go.
The two teams then traded baskets, but with 10 seconds left Wesley Gregory scored on the inside to give the Marauders their first lead of the game 65-64.
Perris Hicks gave the Wolverines the lead again just three seconds later, which set up the bizarre finish.
AVC came down and pressed inside and got Brandon Jolley, who led the Wolverines with 21 points to foul AVC's Jalen Etienne.
Before Etienne could step to the line however, Wolverine coach Quincy Brewer was hit with a technical, which game and AVC's top scorer Joseph Moorer - who scored 22 on the night - a trip to the line.
Moorer only tied the game hitting one of the two free throws, but Etienne nailed both of them to give AVC the two point lead.
It was then that Hicks was ejected from the game and Cory Dollarhide put the game away hitting both of the free throws.
The win keeps the Marauders undefeated on the season at 9-0, while San Bernardino Valley suffers it's first defeat of the season and its first in the three years it has been in the tournament.
Moorer was named the tournament MVP, with Kenneth Moffett, Etienne and Nevell Lenard getting All-Tournament nods. Hicks, JaCardo Hawkins (14 rebounds against AVC) and Jolley were named All-Tournament for the Wolverines.
