RIVERSIDE - Brandon Wade score 17 points, but it was more the inability of Riverside to score that gave the Marauders a 91-47 win in the Third Place game of the San Bernardino Valley Tournament.
The Marauders jumped to a 47-27 halftime lead, thanks to a 16-0 run over five minutes after trailing 18-14 with 10 minutes left in the first. AVC shot 58 percent from the field in the game. The Tigers could only manage 29 percent on the night.
Chris Martin was named All-Tournament.
PIERCE - The Marauders have made their last three games very tight ones, and finally a tight one got away, as AVC lost to Pierce 81-78 in overtime in the second round of the San Bernardino Valley Tournament.
Martin scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a game that saw AVC lead by as many as nine points with just six minutes to go.
With 30 seconds left in regulation, Jalen Etienne gave AVC the three point lead, but 10 seconds later Pierce nailed a three to tie it.
In overtime, it was all Brahmas, giving AVC their first loss of the season.
AVC will look for revenge on Dec. 4 when they open the Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament against Pierce in the first day 7 p.m. game.
The Marauders now face Riverside in the Third Place Game on Sun., Nov. 15 at 3 p.m.
COMPTON - Marauder Men's Basketball stayed perfect on the season, but it wasn't easy - having to erase a 12 point halftime deficit to beat Compton 95-93 in the first round of the San Bernardino Valley Tournament.
Izayah Doyle took a Gregory Wesley pass and hit the layup to break a 93-93 tie as the clock expired to get the win.
Wesley led the Marauders in scoring with 20 points on the night, while Martin scored 19 and Doyle led in rebounds with 10 and also added 13 points.
AVC found themselves down 43-31 at the half, and trailed by as many as 15 with 19 minutes left in the game.
But just 20 seconds later the Marauders began a 20-0 run over the next thee minutes to give them a 52-47 lead with 16 left. In that run Wesley picked up nine of those points, including the first of back to back three pointers (Etienne hit the other one).
Another big part of the comeback was free throws - AVC hit 23 of 25 attempts in the second half, while the Tartars were 14 for 20. AVC forced Compton to commit 19 personal fouls in the second half.
AVC plays Pierce in the second round at 5 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 14
