Marauder Football won a conference match-up against LA Valley on Saturday, 40-6.
In the first quarter, only three points were scored as AVC's John Henderson made a 27-yard field goal halfway through the period. Henderson added a 25-yard field goal in the second period. The Marauders then began to pull away with a pair of touchdowns from Xavier Clay. Clay found the endzone on a 19-yard run and then again on a 2-yard run. He finished with a game-high 97 yards rushing.
With a 16-0 lead to start the third period, the Marauders put together a 4-play, 43-yard drive resulting in a Jackson Marshall 7-yard touchdown run. Marshall finished with 82 yards on the ground.
Antelope Valley added two more scores in the fourth quarter. Davon Jones caught a Brycen Blankenship pass good for a 94-yard touchdown. Jones finished with 156 yards receiving and leads the Marauders on the season with 504 yards. Alijah Steele also caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Emery Floyd.
Gannon Ginnis and Augustin Lorfils Jr led the Marauder defense with six tackles each, while Miles Cooney and Dazhon Sanders each had five tackles.
Prior to the game, former head coach Joe Watts was on hand for a ceremonial coin toss. Marauder Athletics honored coach Watts who will soon retire, for his years of service and dedication to Antelope Valley College.
AVC will take on Santa Monica College next Saturday, Oct. 23, in an away conference game.
