LANCASTER - The Marauder football team will face it toughest challenge to date this Saturday when it hosts LA Valley College at Marauder Stadium.
The Monarchs are undefeated this season and have outscored their opponents 225-75. Oh by the way, that was only their last four opponents.
LA Valley, which has owned the month of October, is ranked No. 15 in the state, and is putting up ridiculous numbers while lighting up the score board. Their defense is allowing only 13.7 points per game, however, they haven't faced any team like the Marauders this season, which are on a winning streak of their own.
AVC trailed 28-14, last week against Santa Barbara City College at halftime and rallied by scoring 27 second half points en route to an easy 41-28 victory. The Marauders offense is electrifying when it touches the field with quarterback Blake Shepherd and receiver Donte Ross.
Add running backs Cole Starnes and Tre Coleman to the mix, both have rushed for 379 yards, along with the running threat of Shepherd (309 yards) and you have a deadly offense that can score at any point duing the game. Over the past two weeks Shepherd has thrown three touchdowns of at least 70 yards.
LA Valley counters with quarterback Christian Jorgenson who was named state Player of the Week after his stellar performance against Allan Hancock. Jorgenson was 26-of-36 for 252 yards and four touchdowns.
Both teams enter the contest atop the the American Pacific Conference with a 2-0 record. The Marauders nearly cracked the top 25 state rankings this week for the first time since 2007. They are only a few spots away and a victory against the Monarchs would certainly propel them into next week's rankings.
