BASEBALL REACHES POSTSEASON FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1969
Under 4th-year head coach Bryan Moses, Antelope Valley College Baseball has made the 3C2A Playoffs for only the second time in program history. Their last playoff appearance dates back to 1969. "I'm delighted to see that our hard work and attention to detail is paying off." said coach Moses. "The group of players we have this year have been nothing short of incredible."
The Marauders finished their regular season with a 27-13 overall record and 12-9 in conference play, second in the Western State-South standings. The 24-team championship bracket has the Marauders as a #19 seed, facing off against the Riverside City College Tigers, a #9 seed in the first round. The 3-game series will be played at Riverside, with Game 1 starting on Friday, May 2 at 2:00 pm. Game 2 will be on Saturday, May 3, at 1:00 pm, with game 3 to follow if necessary.
Teams will progress through two rounds of NorCal and SoCal competition, hoping to earn a coveted berth at the state championship tournament on May 24-26 at Mt. San Antonio College.
In the historic season, the Antelope Valley finished 6th overall in hitting in the 3C2A with 489 hits, 416 runs (3rd in the 3C2A), 369 RBI (3rd in the 3C2A), and a team batting average of .332.
The Marauders had 9 players receive Western State Conference postseason honors. Cody Turner received WSC Player of the Year for the second straight season. Ashton Fitzpatrick (P), KB Bell (OF), Gavin Klennert (1B), and Jacob Baxter (IF) all received 1st Team All-Conference. Brayden Salinas (IF) received 2nd Team honors, while Jose Vasquez, Camden Clark, and Gilberto Beltran received honorable mentions.
Turner, a sophomore from Pete Knight High School, finished with the 2nd highest batting average in the conference at .425. He ranked 2nd in RBI with 53, 3rd in home runs with 10, and on the mound, he struck out 77 batters, 3rd best in conference. Fitzpatrick finished with the 2nd-lowest ERA in the conference at 3.00.
Gavin Klennert led the conference in RBI at 59 and had the 3rd best batting average at .416, while Brayden Salinas finished 3rd in RBI at 50.
"Assistant coaches and everybody in our athletic department have been extremely supportive... the Antelope Valley is a very proud baseball destination, and we will strive to continue to have success," stated Moses as he looks forward to competing in the postseason and continuing the program's success.
