BELL HOMERS TWICE AS MARAUDERS OUTLAST CANYONS
Antelope Valley College Baseball beat the College of the Canyons Cougars 7-5 in game 3 of their Western State Conference series.
The Marauders jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in three of the first four innings. Braydan Salinas hit an RBI triple in the 1st, Jose Vazquez singled to bring home Cody Turner in the 3rd, and Jacob Baxter forced a run in with a ground ball in the 4th. The Cougars struck back with a 3-run 5th inning to tie it at 3-3.
In the bottom of the 6th, KB Bell hit a solo shot to right-center field to put the Marauders up a run. Canyons responded in the 7th to even it back up 4-4. Bell then hit his second home run of the day (6th of the season) to give AVC a 7-4 lead. The sophomore outfielder from Mesa, AZ, finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI on the day.
Braydan Salinas finished with 2 hits and an RBI, while Jose Vazquez finished with a hit and an RBI.
Pitcher Cody Turner added 10 more strikeouts on the mound, bringing his season total to 77 on the year, which ranks 3rd in the Western State Conference. He also currently ranks 2nd in the conference in batting average at .430, 2nd in home runs with 10, and 2nd in RBI with 50. Gavin Klennert leads the conference with 54 RBI and is 4th in batting average at .406, while Salinas ranks 3rd in RBI with 47.
The Marauders are 26-11 overall and 11-7 (2nd) in conference. Their final regular-season series will begin on the road against Bakersfield on Tuesday, April 22. They'll host the Renegades in their last regular-season home game on Thursday, April 24, at 6:00 pm.
