LANCASTER - After sweeping West LA College the series prior, the Marauder baseball team was swept in the final game of the three-game series, 6-0, against LA Mission College, Saturday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
With the loss, AVC (9-24, 5-13) dropped to seventh place in the Western States Conference-South Division standings. The Marauders' struggles at home this season continued as they are 3-16 at Marauder Stadium and are a respectable 6-8 on the road.
Travis Tarnoff and Tyler Pittmon each collected two hits for AVC, which struggled to drive home runs. The Marauders stranded 14 base runners and had runners in scoring position in all but two innings.
"Against West LA we were confident and played relax. Other times (like today) we play tight and struggle. We just need to stay more consistent," Pittmon said. "We know we have the talent. We just put too much pressure on ourselves. Our problem all season long has been getting hits when nobody is on and when we get runners on we don't get that clutch hit. We know we're out of it. I think our main goal is to upset COC and end the season on a good note."
The Marauders' final three games of the season are against College of the Canyons. COC trails Glendale College by two games for first place and it currently sits in third place also behind Bakersfield College.
The Eagles' Luke Lacy gave AVC batters fits. Lacy allowed only six hits in six innings of work and struck out four. AVC's Arturo Sanchez pitched five innings and allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out three.
