Softball splits season opening double-header

After a couple of rainy weeks and schedule adjustments, Softball opened their season hosting Antelope Valley for a double-header. Game one took a longer but the Raiders defeated the Marauders, 4-3 in 10 innnigs. Game two went to Antelope Valley, 5-1.

In the bottom of the with two outs, Leah Cowans singled and next batter Alexa Paradis walked. Kylie Kolkowski hit a grounder to AV shortstop and she threw away, RBI Kolkowski. The next Raider batter, Isabella Velasquez RBI singled scored Paradis, 2-0 Raiders. 

Antelope Valley scored 3 times in the top of the 6th but the Raiders tied it in the bottom of 6th. Danielle Bishop was hit by a pitch, she took 2nd on a wild pitch. Mallory Akhlaghi doubled to have runners at 2nd and 3rd. The next Raider batter Leah Cowans SAC fly scored Bishop. 3-3 going into the 7th. The Raiders were able to push a run across in the bottom of the 10th. Starting with a runner on second, Maddy Merkari SAC bunt advanced Velasquez to 3rd. 4-3 Raiders.

Leah Cowans went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Ashlyn Olsen went 2 for 4. Amanda Smith got the win.

In game two, Antelope Valley found answer to the Raider's hitting using their 3rd pitcher of the day. The Raiders broke through in the bottom of the 6th. Leah Cowans singled and Alexas Paradis RBI double scored Cowans to get their lone run. Amanda Smith got the loss.

The Raiders will play 2 more doubl-headers this week traveling to Glendale on Thursday and they will host Riverside on Saturday.
