CROSS COUNTRY SENDS SALAZAR AS WELL AS MEN'S TEAM TO REGIONAL FINALS
As she has all season, Ailani Salazar continued to improve and placed 24th overall (out of 66 finishers). Her efforts earned her a trip to regionals, and she was named All-WSC Second Team.
Goal number 1 for the Marauder men's cross country team was accomplished on October 20th, as they qualified for the 2023 Regional Finals on November 3rd, hosted by Cerritos College at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.
After illnesses plagued the women's team, only two Lady Marauders toed the line on the hilly Pierce College course (LA Mission served as the host school). Brianna Dominguez failed to meet the individual qualifying standard but ran valiantly, posting a 3-minute personal best from her time on the same course in 2022.
As she has all season, Ailani Salazar continued to improve and placed 24th overall (out of 66 finishers). Her efforts earned her a trip to regionals, and she was named All-WSC Second Team.
The top goal for the men was to grab one of the 8 spots from the WSC meet, and the men did just that, claiming the 8th spot.
Bakersfield College claimed their first men's title in 30 years, followed by Glendale and Ventura in second and third. Eric Amaya (29th), Leo Lopez (33rd), Tim Moreno (38th), Kai Smithley (47th), Richard Rose (49th), Jesus Flores (50th), and Brayden Briggs (51st) were the scorers for the men's team (out of 110 finishers).
Amaya, Lopez, and Moreno were named All-WSC Honorable Mention.
"With our first of 3 road to the state markers in the bag, it's time to focus on #2, which is qualifying for the state meet, " commented head coach Tony Veney." "The entire squad is where I thought we could be at this juncture, and it's a matter of being able to have our most consistent run of the year at El Dorado Park," he added.
