GLENDORA - The Marauder women's soccer team entered the 2017 conference season as one of the favorites to contend for a championship.
But so far the Marauders are only 1-1-2 in conference play, including two uncharacteristic ties against Bakersfield College and Friday's 2-2 tie against winless Citrus College.
"We haven't played to our fullest potential (in conference)," AVC's Lindsey McDermott said. "It's not what we're looking for, but there are going to be some off games. I think we're at a point in the season where it's not physical but mental."
McDermott scored both goals for the Marauders (8-3-3) at 51:16 of the second half and less than a minute later at 52:13 giving AVC a 2-1 lead. McDermott's two goals give her six on the season.
"We have to commend Citrus for playing us tough and the entire 90 minutes," McDermott said. "We have to analyze the things we did and get rid of the bad things and keep the good things. But I think we can build off this."
The Owls' (5-5-4, 0-2-1) Devyn Bagwell, who scored a goal early in the first half giving her team a 1-0 lead right before the 10-minute mark, tied the game in the second half with a goal at 78:11.
AVC's Rielly Rasmussen assisted McDermott's first goal, which helped the Marauders tie the score.
