LANCASTER - The Marauder women's soccer was dominant from start to finish with a convincing 9-1 victory over West LA College, Friday night at Marauder Stadium.
AVC (7-2-1) was led by Alyssa Sanchez who finished with three goals and two assists. Sanchez leads the team with nine goals and ranks tied for 11th in the state in goals. Lindsey McDermott added two more goals to her season total for the Marauders.
"Since we have such a professional coaching staff we have such a high soccer IQ. As an overall perspective I think we all contributed for the win. We're starting to come together as one," McDermott said. "That's our plan, which is to win a conference championship. This year is such a new team and we built a new foundation. I'm very pleased, but not yet satisfied. We've been having some good wins (in preseason), but we have bigger goals."
It took a while for the Marauders to get going, but Sanchez got things rolling with her first goal with 32:36 in the first half. About 13 minutes later, McDermott put AVC up 2-0 just before halftime off the assist from Sanchez.
The Wildcats finally got on the score board with a goal at 67:17 in the second half, but by that time the Marauders held a 7-0 lead.
