TEMECULA - Marauder women's golfer Michaela Klundt was the final qualifier to advance to the State Championships following her performance at the Souther California Championships which were held at the Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course.
Klundt shot a combined score of 165, shooting an 83 on Sunday and an 82 on Monday to finish tied for 12th place. Fullerton's Kaylee Jeon (75/77) was the top finisher with a score of 152.
"I think I played terrible to say the least. I missed a lot of greens both days. My short game isn't as strong as my long game," Klundt said. "On Monday I only hit seven greens. The key for me is to hit the greens which I didn't do, so my scores were higher. I'm very grateful though, that I was able to advance."
For the second year in a row Klundt will compete at the state meet. Last year she finished 22nd out of 60 women. This year the match will held at the Morro Bay Golf Course on Sunday, Nov. 13th and Monday, Nov. 14th.
"The course isn't too challenging. It's pretty straight forward. In order to place higher I have to hit more greens and make more putts," Klundt said. "I'm focused, but I don't want to put too much pressure on myself. I just want to have fun and enjoy myself."
Santa Barbara City won the overall team competition with a combined score of 661, while host Cuyamaca finished second (662) followed by Canyons (696).
