GLENDALE - The Marauder women's basketball team remained undefeated in conference play with its most impressive victory of the season as it controlled the game from start to finish and cruised to an easy 71-47 victory against Glendale College, Saturday evening in Glendale.
"We executed the game plan by limiting their leading scorers shots in side the paint. Tamia (Huffman) and Ashley (Shaw) were very instrumental at anchoring our basket protection," AVC head coach Barry Green said. "We are playing very well at this point in the season. We believe in the system."
The Marauders (11-12, 5-0) led 46-41 entering the fourth quarter and why AVC knew there will still four quarters, the Vaqueros must have forgot. The Marauders out scored Glendale (15-8, 3-2) 25-6 in the final 10 minutes of the game to claim the victory.
AVC had four players core in double figures, led by Deja Smith, who finished with 18 and six rebounds. Kaitilin Stephenson added another double-double by finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
With the victory, the Marauders are still clinging to a one-game lead over LA Valley College atop the Western State Conference. The Vaqueros, which entered the game hoping to make a three-way tie for first, dropped to two games behind AVC
