LANCASTER – The Marauder women's basketball team won its fourth game in a row and continued to remain atop the Western State Conference-East Division standings with a 54-41 victory over Citrus College, Wednesday night on Newton Chelette Court.
"It's really good to be in this position right now. We're kind of control of our own destiny," AVC head coach Barry Green said. "We're right where we want to be just in case we have a hiccup.
With an upset victory against LA Valley College earlier this month, the Marauders have a good chance of making the playoffs, especially if they win the conference title.
Deja Smith led the Marauders with 16 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Makaela Manson finished with 12 points and Brieanna Perkins added 11 points and eight rebounds, including three 3-pointers.
With the score tied 16-16, the Marauders used a 15-2 run to blow the game open. That stretch included two consecutive 3-pointers by Perkins.
AVC holds a one-game lead on LA Valley and Glendale College, a team that the Marauders play on Saturday evening.
