LANCASTER - Reality check? Maybe.
Following one of its best performances the prior night against Pierce College, the Marauder women's basketball team was brought down from its high after suffering a 74-35 defeat at the hands of College of the Sequoias, Saturday night at 16th Annual AVC Holiday Tournament at Marauder Gymnasium.
"Maybe they came in and thought it might be easy," AVC head coach Barry Green said.
It wasn't.
The Giants (13-2) outscored the Marauders 25-3 in the first quarter, including closing on a 23-1 run to end the quarter. It was the lowest point total in any quarter by an AVC team in school history.
"I thought we could have played maybe and maybe even won. When we got down we had our heads down and kind of gave up," AVC's Ashley Shaw said. "Everybody was in thier own mindset. We have to play team ball and we have to come out ready to play."
Deja Smith was the only scorer in double figures for the Marauders as she finished with 10 points. Kaitilin Stephenson had eight points and five rebounds and Shaw finished with four points and six rebounds.
The Marauders will play Cypress College on Saturday in the Third Place game and Sequoias will face Mt. SAC for the championship for the third year in a row. The Mounties have won the previous two.
