SAN JACINTO - The Marauder women's slow start to the season can be attributed to its poor shooting.
And it showed again Sunday night when the Marauders dropped their fourth of five games with a 43-37 loss against Chaffey College at the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament.
"I knew the lack of bench strength and the number of minutes our starters accumulated would affect our overall production on both sides of the court," AVC head coach Barry Green said. "We had numerous opportunities to take advantage of Chaffey's turnovers, but we could not finish or knock down open looks."
Deja Smith led the Marauders (1-4) with 17 points, but was only 4-of-14 shooting on the night.
AVC has struggled putting th eball in the basket as it is shooting only 31 percent from the field, 23 percent from 3-point range and 52 percent from the free throw line.
