Bio

Mike Vargas enters his 18th year as the assistant softball coach at AVC. He also works as a hitting instructor in the Antelope Valley, working with baseball and softball players of all ages. 

Mike moved to the Antelope Valley in 1977. He graduated in 1988 from Antelope Valley High School where he played basketball, football, and baseball. After graduation, he worked as a plumber for Rooster Rooter for 21 years.

Mike has over 25 years of experience coaching various sports in the Antelope Valley. Before coming to AVC, he coached football, baseball, softball, and basketball at various schools including Antelope Valley High School, Highland High School, Paraclete High School, Quartz Hill High School, New Vista Middle School, Park View Middle School, and Joe Walker Middle School. He founded and directed So Cal Terror, a youth baseball program from 2009-2017. 

In his second year of coaching at AVC, he and his wife Cindy led the team to the school’s first ever state championship appearance, finishing with a school record of 47-7 on the season, including a perfect 21-0 in the Foothill Conference. They placed a record four players on the All-American team, also a first for AVC.

Vargas and his wife, Cindy reside in Palmdale with their sons Tyler (22) and Cole (19).
