LOERA TOSSES NO-HITTER AS MARAUDERS SHUT DOWN BAKERSFIELD
AVC's Helena Loera pitched a no-hitter in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Bakersfield Renegades.
AVC's Helena Loera pitched a no-hitter in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Bakersfield Renegades. The freshman from Oak Hills High School in Hesperia, CA, was remarkably efficient in the zone, throwing 66 of 88 pitches for strikes and striking out 3 batters. The Marauder defense supported Loera with solid field play.
"I'm so happy for Helena on her performance and the support she had behind her. It was a great team win," said head coach Cindy Vargas.
Offensively, Kylie Zinn and Natalia Hernandez did most of the damage as both went 2-for-3, with Zinn recording 2 RBI. Jolene Miramontes provided the third run off one hit, while Angelina Quezada and Emily Centeno also recorded hits.
"The energy was the difference in today's game, which led to almost flawless defense behind our pitcher and clutch hitting when we needed it the most. This is what we will need moving forward," remarked assistant coach Cole Vargas.
The win pushed AVC over .500 at 12-11-1 overall and 3-1 in conference. The Marauders travel to Citrus before returning home to face Cerritos in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
