AVC Softball improved to 8-1 in conference play with an 8-0 win over Citrus College. The offense got rolling right away in the 1st inning as Savannah Cervantes, and Nayely Delgado recorded RBIs. Delgado then started a 3rd inning rally with an RBI single to score Hailey Johnson. Amy Manzo doubled to bring in Delgado. Manzo then scored when Denise Carrillo reached first on an error.
With a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 4th inning, Hailey Johnson hit her second home run in as many games. The 3-run blast put the Marauders up 8-0. AVC's defense, led by Madison Reiser's 7 Ks in the circle, kept the game out of reach. Reiser allowed just one hit in the 5-inning shutout. Johnson also contributed a spectacular catch in left field to help keep the Owls from scoring.
The Marauders totaled their 8 runs off 9 hits with 1 error. Both Hailey Johnson and Nayely Delgado finished 2-for-2. Johnson had 3 RBI and scored twice, while Delgado had 2 RBI and scored once. Denise Carrillo, Amy Manzo, and Savannah Cervantes recorded a hit and an RBI each, while Ariel Nieto went 2-for-3.
AVC faces a tough 31-3 Mt. San Antonio team on the road before traveling to Bakersfield and LA Mission. Their final regular-season home stint is a 2-game series against San Diego Mesa on 4/22.
