WALNUT – The Marauder softball team advanced in the CCCAA Super Regionals with an 8-3 victory over Cerritos College, Saturday evening at Mt. SAC.
Dolly Stevens hit her 22nd home run of the season, tying Paige Johnson for the state lead, in the top of the seventh inning, with the Marauders already leading 6-0. Stevens' two-run blast over the left field wall gave the Marauders an 8-0 lead.
AVC led 1-0 entering the top of the third inning before scoring four runs to take a 5-0 lead. Cerritos got the first two outs of the inning, but AVC did all its damage following that. Tawnee Hegre hit an RBI double to score Valerie Dorantes. Later in the inning Elise Moore singled to score Johnson and Stevens.
Starting pitcher Morgan Arndt pitched five innings and allowed no hits before being relieved and the Marauders with a comfortable lead.
AVC will play a rematch against El Camino College. The Warriors defeated the Marauders 6-3 on Friday night sending AVC into the loser's bracket.
