MARAUDER MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES WITH A DISAPPOINTING 23RD PLACE IN IRVINE
IRVINE - It was not the finish the Marauder men's cross country team wanted.
And it was not the finish that head coach Mark Covert expected.
AVC didn't run well as a team and finished a disappointing 23rd place at the So Cal Preview held at Irvine Park.
The meet was for all southern California junior colleges to gauge where they stand at this point in the season.
"We didn't run well at all," Covert said.
AVC's top finisher was Fernando Flores who finished 121st with a time of 22:59.24. Flores was the Marauders top finisher only a few weeks ago in Oxnard, but in that race he finished 25th. Cody Watson finished right behind Flores on Friday, just like he did in Oxnard. Watson crossed the line in 23:31.19 and was 149th. Jesus Patino was AVC's third finisher with a time of 23:50.17 (171st).
Luis Ortega of San Bernardino Valley College crossed the tape first with a time of 20:31.58. He was followed by Joshua Silva (Riverside City College) and Sean McDermott (Cuesta College) with times of 20:38.96 and 20:47.39 respectively.
Riverside (73) finished first overall followed by Cuyamaca College (100) and Mt. Sac (111). There were only five runners to break the sub 21-minute mark.
