MEN'S SOCCER REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN CONFERENCE PLAY
October 12, 2018
With both teams coming in with similar overall records and all first round conference matches very close in the Western State Conference, the game ending in a 1-1 tie (AVC 1 - Bakersfield 1) was a hard fought battle between both sides with no victor.
"I feel Bakersfield had more opportunities than us in the first half and we dominated the 2nd half including two high percentage shots, one which hit the post and the other which was mis-hit on the end-line which normally would be goals , it just wasn't our day finishing," stated Head Soccer Coach Jerry Stupar.
The shot chart was basically even at 12-11 AVC and with Bakersfield leading 1-0 in the final few minutes from their early first half goal by Alexander Ramos from a corner kick, it appeared the game was over. However, with one minute remaining in regulation time a corner kick was awarded to the Mauraders and post substitution and set play called from the sideline, Rodrigo Martinez placed a beautiful ball on the head of Sebastyan Enriquez whom equalized the game in the last play of the match ending in a 1-1 tie. Both AVC goal keepers Duncan & Garcia share the win
With 45 minutes a piece and improve the over-all record to 5-4-3 (1-0-1).
AVC plays next on the road at Citrus college sitting in 2nd place behind Canyons.
