MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO LA MISSION, 1-0
October 5, 2018
The Mauraders chose LA Mission College as their last non-conference game to prepare for next week's conference opener versus Glendale College.
"We knew coming into this game it was going to be a war, especially with both of us coaches being CSUN alumni bringing similar backgrounds into this match," stated Head Soccer Coach Jerry Stupar. "We had multiple high percentage scoring opportunities in the last 15 minutes which could have easily gave us a 2- 1 win but it was an off day for our offensive team, but a great game to end post season and reflect."
Systems of play were similar, the shot chart was almost even, and there were multiple close opportunities to win from both programs. However, LA Mission had a shot just before the half which showcased an uncharacteristic side half-volley that spun off another player inside of the 18 yard box. The shot found its way in the net and gave LA Mission a 1-0 lead going into the second half.
AVC outshot LA Mission with several close calls but failed to equalize the game in the second half. The Mauraders finished non-conference play at (4-4-2).
