MEN'S SOCCER KEEPS HOME STREAK ALIVE
The Anetlope Valley College men's soccer team hosted a tough Cypress squad on Friday.
After a slow start in the first half and strong physical play of Cypress , AVC found themself behind 0-1 from a goal by the visiting team in the 16th minute. This was also due to a high number of missed offensive opportunities for the Mauraders which yielded a shot chart of: AVC 18 - Cyprus 6 for the match.
Cameron Taylor had the first goal of the game for AVC at the 75 minute mark. The tieing goal, which was assisted by Juan Gallardo, was described as an effort that came from pure hustle and commitment to the win.
Christian Gonzalez was able to secure the game winning goal after converting a penalty kick at the 87 minute mark. "Christian was one of my top recruits for 2018 and when the PK was awarded based on the foul to Jorge Martinez from battling hard in the box, I knew Christian's confidence and ability would secure the win." stated Head Coach Jerry Stupar.
"Due to a resilient second half team and work ethic displaying a 0 - 90 minute mentality, the guys came together as a team along with a strong contribution from the depth chart to come back and win together," stated Stupar.
The backline of Dylan Gonzalez, Kevin Colin, Alfredo Chinnery , and target man "stomper" Raymond Clark , kept their usual 1.0 GAA for the match. Goalkeeper Dakota Dunkin finished the game with 90 min. / 3 Saves / 1 GA.
AVC (3-2-2) will next play at home Tuesday versus El Camino.
