MARAUDERS SOCCER STUNNED BY SANTA MONICA
The Antelope Valley College men's soccer team received a wake-up call in their loss at Santa Monica.
From the start of the game, Santa Monica aggresively proved why they are undefeated on the sesason. "We knew going into this game that Santa Monica was going to be tough and be among the best in California," said Head Coach Jerry Stupar. "This is the exact reason that I schedule them every year, so the team understands the level of play necessary to win conference."
Possession on the game was 55-45% in favor of SMC with the shot chart 9-7 in favor of Santa Monica, statistically appearing to be a closer game. However, SMC set pieces were conducted beautifully scoring 4 goals on 2 corner kicks and 1 direct kick. The first goal for SMC came at 5 min in from 35 yards out by forward Eto Atiabet. The Mauraders lone goal came from Sebastyan Enriquez from 25 yards out on a direct kick at 79 min. AVC rallied in the last 15 minutes of the game to increase shot attempts, but SMC defense proven just as lethal as their attack to keep GA at 1.
The loss moves the Marauders to 2-2-2 on the season and leaves Santa Monica untouched at 5-0 overall. The Mauraders will play next at Home Friday versus Cypress in attempt to continue their unbeaten record at home.
