MEN'S SOCCER TIES IN LABOR DAY SHOWDOWN
September 5, 2018
The Marauders Men's Soccer Team faced College of the Sequoia's in their second Labor Day weekend game on Sept. 1st, 2018.
The Antelope Valley squad would depend on the depth chart to keep pressure on very physical COS with the tough back-to-back game schedule. AVC knew going into the game that they would be very physical after recalling their 2017 game which ended in a 1-0 win the year before.
Only 11 minutes in - COS scored on a defensive mental breakdown which allowed an early goal and took 46 Minutes to equalize. "Sequoias won most of the 50/50 balls in the first half and it took a system change at half time to change the flow and possession battle of the game", stated Head Coach Jerry Stupar.
The second half yielded 5 more shots for AVC with a shot chart total of : AVC 6 - COS 4 . The second goal of the game came from AVC #2 Juan Gallardo from an assist from # 7 Christian Gonzalez in a set piece at the 57:00 minute. AVC dominated possession in the second half and had two other shot attempts on Frame but unable to capitalize for the win. Goal keeper Stats:
#1 Matt Garcia - 45 min / 0 saves / 1 GA. &
#00 Dakota Duncan - 45 min / 2 saves / 0 GA.
Dakota had a big save in the 81st minute to maintain the tie, moving the Marauders record to (0-1-2) on the season. AVC will play next at Home on Wednesday Sept. 5 at 4pm for their Home Opener versus San Diego Imperial Valley.
