Antelope Valley Men's Golf finished 5th in their opening match earlier this week as Canyons hosted at Valencia Country Club. Jacob Valente led the Marauders with 75.
AVC's team score was 429, only four strokes behind 4th place Glendale. Players battled very challenging course conditions in the cold with 20-30 mph winds all day. The average course score was an 85 on the day.
Valente's 75 was followed by Derrick Rossmango's score of 85. Miguel Cullum and Patrick Studdert both shot 87, and Brennen Boulger fished with a 95.
Jacob tied for 3rd overall as the top score was 73 out of the field of 48 players.
"I'm was very excited to see Jacob perform well in his hometown.
He's been putting in a lot of time on the course preparing for the start of his freshman season and to see him post that score on a day like today shows just how talented of a golfer he is. " said head coach Brad Hazard of the freshman from Saugus High School.
The Marauders will tee off at Oakmont Country Club on Monday for their next match as Glendale College hosts.
"Although we didn't get the team results we were hoping for, I'm proud of the way the guys battled today. We have a talented group that has the ability to compete for a top spot in the league, and I'm looking forward to a great season," added Hazard.
