AVC Men's Basketball scored a big win against the top-ranked West LA Wildcats 101-89 at home on Saturday. Ranked #2 in the state, the Wildcats entered the contest undefeated in conference play with a first-place 7-0 record (19-2 overall) in the Western State-South. But that didn't deter the Marauders from playing play-off caliber basketball, shooting 53% from the field while holding West LA to 46% from the floor. AVC outrebounded their opponent 41 to 34 and caused 18 turnovers.
AVC led 46-42 at the break and continued the offensive pressure to outscore the Wildcats 55-47 in the second half. Xa Landry led Antelope Valley with 20 points and tied for a game-high 5 assists. Tre Hawkins and Ryan Frazer had 19 points each, with 9 rebounds for Hawkins and 8 for Frazer.
Josh Montiano recorded 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Malik Larane had 11 and 5 rebounds. Larane leads AVC in scoring on the season with 13.3 points per game.
The Marauders are 4-4 in conference and 10-12 overall as they shift their attention to a rematch with LA Valley on Wednesday. They will return home on Saturday, Feb. 10, to face Santa Monica at 3:00 pm.
