Both teams entered the contest looking for their first league win of the season. Defense dominated the entire first half, as neither team scored. The game's first points came five minutes into the third quarter when Sharmon Rester found Omar Lopez for a 24-yard touchdown pass. The play capped off a 7-play, 75-yard drive for the Marauders.
It appeared AVC would be in the driver's seat, but Santa Barbara responded two minutes later with a touchdown. They then added a field goal and another touchdown to take a 24-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Antelope Valley bounced back to start the fourth quarter with another TD pass. This time, it was Rico Becerra catching a 12-yard strike from Rester. The Vaqueros put the game out of reach with 2:33 left on the clock to take a 31-13 lead. A pair of interceptions led to two more Vaquero touchdowns and a 45-13 final.
Rester finished 15-for-31 with two passing touchdowns and four interceptions. Caleb Gardner led the rushing attack with 51 yards on the ground. Taajean Brown had 95 kickoff return yards, while Christopher Early and Ryan Vollmer led the defense with 5 tackles each. Jordan Baker recorded one 10-yard sack.
The Marauders will next host the Ventura College Pirates on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 2:00 pm.
