AVC Football got the 20-10 victory over LA Harbor Saturday and improved to 2-1 on the season.
After scoring 52 points in a shootout loss to Santa Ana last game, the Marauders couldn't find the endzone in the first half. Both teams missed field goals and struggled to generate offense resulting in a 0-0 tie at halftime.
Both teams would get the offense started in the third quarter. The Seahawks put the game's first points on the board with a 28-yard Alex Perez field goal eight minutes into the quarter. LA Harbor would extend the lead on an interception returned for a touchdown down by Dayshawn Little. Little intercepted Brian Adams and took it back three yards ending what looked like a promising drive for AVC. Adams finished 4-21 for 34 yards and one interception.
Up 10-0, the Seahawks looked to be in control until Tyler Selvig gave the Marauders an offensive spark. Selvig capped off a 5-play 69-yard drive with a 19-yard touchdown run. Selvig finished with a game-high 116 yards rushing. He also had 27 yards passing completing three of nine attempts. AVC would trail 6-10 after a failed PAT to end the quarter.
The Marauder defense held steady to open the fourth quarter, giving the offense opportunity, and they would take full advantage with a 16-play 99-yard drive. Mike Jones punched in a 3-yard touchdown run to give AVC the 13-10 lead after Lucas Seaton made the PAT.
The Marauder defense kept the pressure on as Jalen Perdue intercepted a pass in the Seahawks endzone. After a stalled drive, AVC pinned the Seahawks deep in their own territory. That's when the Marauder defense would seal the win for AVC as Kalai Clark recovered a fumble and returned it 28 yards for the score.
The Marauders got the win, but it may have come with a price as running back Xavier Clay left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. Clay had 48 yards rushing on 12 carries. Linebacker Enzo Fantau-Barker led AVC on the defensive side of the ball with five solo tackles and an interception.
The Marauders (2-1) will travel to Santa Barbara next Saturday before returning home to battle Allan Hancock at AVC on October 12th.
