Marauder Football won their season opener 27-21 on the road against Glendale on Saturday. AVC came out aggressive blocking a punt after Glendale's first drive stalled. Jaylin Cochran returned the block 31 yards giving AVC the early 7-0 lead. Glendale struck back with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Eldridge to Jalen Lawrence.
Both teams scored in the second quarter as AVC's Brian Adams hit Errius Collins for an 81-yard score. Errius led all receivers with four catches for 109 yards and a touchdown. The Gauchos then came back to tie it up 14-14 before halftime when Jalen Lawrence caught a 46 yd pass from Nathan Eldridge.
A Lucas Seaton 29-yard field goal put AVC up 17-14 early in the third quarter. The Marauders then scored again when Jalen O'Neil broke free for a 15-yard rushing touchdown. O'Neil finished with 41 yards on seven carries to lead all rushers. "I was happy with Jalen's performance, and I thought he fought for some tough yards." said head coach Perry Jehlicka.
The Marauders took a 24-14 lead into the fourth quarter and added another field goal from Lucas Seaton from 32 yards to go up 27-14 with 3:27 left to play. Glendale scored again in the final minute as AVC held on for the 27-21 win. Quarterback Brian Adams finished 15-31 for 190 yards and a touchdown. The Marauders (1-0) will take on Santa Ana College on Saturday, September 14th before their home opener on September 28th against LA Harbor.
