Marauder Baseball lost 18-17 in a marathon battle against Glendale in their final game of the season. Before the start, AVC paid honor 14 sophomores who will be moving on. Nate Scott, Dylan Schnider, Colin Hagen, Gavin Hagen, Patrick Berry, Austin Johnson, George Mercado, Omar Santamaria, Nathan Duarte, Zach Johnson, Gavin Rhynes, Brandon Wilson, Ariv Camacho, and Julian Blackwell all played their last game for the Marauders.
It took 4 1/2 hours and all 9 innings to decide the outcome. AVC went up 3-0 in the 1st with Joe Uribe and Gavin Rhynes recording RBIs off walks and Julian Blackwell scoring off a wild pitch. The Vaqueros came back with a huge 7-run inning in the top of the 2nd, but AVC kept it close with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. Blackwell scored on another wild pitch, and Ariv Camacho reached home on an error. Down 8-5, AVC benefited from more wild pitching by Glendale, as Colin Hagen, Omar Santamaria, and Joe Uribe all scored off wild pitches. Blackwell gave the Marauders a 10-8 lead with a 2-RBI single, bringing home Rhynes and Austin Schaefer.
Glendale responded with a combined 7 runs in the 5th and 6th innings. Antelope Valley erased the 5-run deficit with a big 6th inning rally. After Austin Schaefer scored an unearned run, Nate Scott recorded an RBI off a walk to bring AVC within 3. Two more unearned runs in the inning evened to score at 16. The Vaqueros struck back to take a 1-run lead in the 7th. The Marauders rallied again in the 8th when both Nate Scott and Nathan Duarte hit RBI doubles to put AVC back on top 17-16. But a home run and a fielder's choice gave Glendale a 1-run advantage in the final inning. AVC almost pulled off a season-ending walk-off win as Mason Johnson took a flyball deep to left field, but Glendale was able to make the play and seal the win.
Nathan Duarte, Nate Scott, and Julian Blackwell led the Marauders with 2 RBI each, while Blackwell finished 3-for-6. Ariv Camacho and Nathan Duarte had 2 hits each. Eight pitchers saw action on the mound, with starter George Mercado, Diego Villanueva, and Colin Stout striking out 2 batters each. Under new head coach Dr. Bryan Moses, the Marauders finished 20-18 and wrapped up their first winning season in over a decade.
