Marauder Men's Baseball took both games in a doubleheader against Porterville, 4-0, and 11-4 on Saturday.
In game one, AVC's defense would be the story as they held Porterville scoreless. Preston Johnston went the 7-inning distance facing 25 batters with two strikeouts and seven hits for his first win of the season.
After two scoreless innings, the Marauders got their bats going in the bottom of the third when Christian Garcia doubled to left field scoring Tyler Vargas. Frankie Linstrom then hit a sacrifice fly ball to score Garcia. Garcia finished 3-for-4 with 1 RBI.
Antelope Valley would add an insurance run in the 4th inning when Nathan Hernandez singled to shortstop scoring Colin Hagen. And then another one in the 5th inning when Linstrom hit a solo home run to center field. Linstrom finished 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs.
The Pirates would bounce back in the second game and jump out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the 1st inning, one in the 2nd inning, and one in the third. After three scoreless innings, AVC's offense would come alive with three runs in the 4th inning. After Porterville walked in a run, Robert Gonzales singled to center field, scoring Mark Ribeiro, and Frankie Linstrom. Gonzales would finish 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
The Marauders scored another four runs in the 5th inning. Christian Garcia lined out to score a run. Then Linstrom hit a 2-RBI single to left field scoring Nathan Duarte and Tyler Vargas.
Antelope Valley kept the Pirates from scoring again while they blew the game open with another four runs in the 6th inning. Duarte, Linstrom, and Braden Courter would each hit RBI singles. Linstrom ended 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs while Courter finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Robert Gonzales managed 2 RBIs from 3 hits while both Duarte and Vargas went 2-for-4 on the day. The Marauders totaled 13 hits in the 11-4 win. Patrick Berry would earn his second win of the year on the mound with two strikeouts in five innings of work.
AVC improved to 5-3 overall and will battle Cerro Coso next at home on Tuesday, the 11th, at 1:00 pm.
