LANCASTER - After winning its opening game of the season, the Marauder baseball team evened its record to 1-1 after suffering a defeat against Porterville College, 3-1, Tuesday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
AVC (1-1) out hit the Pirates (1-3), 7-6, but could not muster any offense. The Marauders lack of offense spoiled an impressive pitching performance by Ryan Hanzel. Hanzel pitched six solid innings allowing only four hits and two earned runs, while striking out three.
Porterville led 1-0 entering the fourth inning and with two outs, the Marauders bats temporarily came alive as they had three consecutive singles from Gabriel Cartier, Daniel Gomez and Daulton Stanton to load the bases. Ethan Avant drew a walk to plate Cartier, proving to be the only run of the game for AVC.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Marauders trailed 2-1 and had a golden opportunity to tie the score after pinch hitter Joseph Cochran tripled with no outs in the inning. However, AVC's next three batters could not plate Cochran as he was stranded on third ruining any chance for the Marauders.
