MARAUDER BEACH VOLLEYBALL SPLITS A PAIR WITH SANTA ANA, RIVERSIDE CITY

HUNTINGTON BEACH - The Marauder beach volleyball team defeated Santa Ana 3-2, but lost later in the day to Riverside City, 5-0 to even its record to 2-2 on the season.

AVC's No. 2 team of Bailey Green and Bella Bradford easily defeated Santa Ana's Iliana Mendoza and Britany Tran, 21-12, 21-19. Its No. 3 team of Melissa Lee and Elizabeth Perez had no struggles with Kayla Long and Kassandra Murrillo, 21-19, 21-13.

The other victory by the Marauders came from their No. 3 team of Taylor Williams and Alexandria Peacon. Having lost the No. 1 and No. 5 the match with Williams and Peacon against Santa Ana's Lily Reissmueller and Karissa Mumford was pivotal. Reissmueller and Peacon won the first set with a tight 23-21 victory. However, Williams and Peacon battled back to take the second 21-17 forcing a third. Williams and Peacon were able to squeak by with a 15-23 victory.

"The girls fought hard and even though we split they did a lot of good things," AVC head coach Mark Cruz said. "Hopefully we'll be ready for conference."

Jasmine Dixon and Heather Emory lost a tight three-set match to Santa Ana's No. 1 team of Viridiana Serrano and Mikelle Taylor, 12-21, 21-10, 15-9.

Dixon and Emory also forced a three-set match against Riverside City's No. 1 team losing 24-14, 10-21, 15-13.
