Bio

The Marauder Sports Information Office enters its 28th year in providing the media covering Antelope Valley College Marauder Athletics with the best possible information.  

The office, headed by the Sports Information Director, Glenn Haller, is responsible for acting as a liaison between AVC’s athletic department and the media, compiling and maintaining statistics, as well as producing brochures and updating the web site for the department.

In 2006 he was honored by the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) as their BRASS TOP Award winner.  BRASS TOP stands for “Bringing Respect And Superior Service To Our Profession” and is given annually to an individual who has made a positive impact in the field of sports information and through their work advances the cause of the community college sports information professional.

 In 2007 he received the Scoop Hudgins Outstanding SID Award by the All-American Football Foundation. The award is given by the Foundation to those who excel in their efforts to promote the game of football.

He finished his tenure in 2005 as the Past-President of the CCCSIA, having served a two- year term as President which began August 2001, and was the first Secretary-Publicist for the organization.    

He is also a member of the College Sports Information Directors Association, which recognized his 1991 Volleyball Media Guide as the second best in the nation.  His 1995-96 men’s basketball program was named second in the state by the California Community College Public Relations Organization. 

In 2002, the office, in conjunction with the Antelope Valley College Department of Government and Public Relations, received a Bronze Paragon Award for Sports Brochure.  This national award is given by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations.  The two offices also shared a first place in Sports Release awarded by CCPRO. 

In early 2000 he was listed 16th on the Top 20 People Who Shaped AVC Athletics list compiled by the Antelope Valley Press.

Haller became a permanent member of the AVC faculty in early 2000, and has been granted tenure and the academic title of “professor” as well.

He currently is the Department Chair for Kinesiology and Athletics, as well as Faculty co-Chair of the Outcomes Committee.

Prior to coming to AVC, Haller headed the Media Relations Department for the Fresno Flames, a professional basketball team in the World Basketball League.

Haller began work in the sports information field as a student assistant at Fresno State, a position which culminated with him being named as Director of Tournament Information for the 1983 NCAA Golf Championships.  In 1984, he was named Sports Information Director for California Bowl IV.

Haller attended Wm. S. Hart High School and received his bachelor’s in journalism (public relations option) in 1983 from Fresno State, in addition to his master’s in physical education (athletic administration emphasis) from that same school in 1989.  He received his juris doctor in June of 1998 from the Ridgecrest School of Law.

A fourth generation Mason, he was Master for Old West Lodge #813 in 2012 and is Master for Palmdale Lodge #697 in 2017.

He has two sons, Austin (29) who is an Eagle Scout and received his bachelor’s of science degree in geological engineering from Colorado School of Mines and is working as a geologist in Kansas and Joseph (25) who played football for Sand Creek High School in Colorado Springs, setting a school record for fumble recoveries and played with the Marauders in 2010 before entering the Army where he recently returned from a second deployment in Afghanistan and is in Psychological Operations, and a stepson Everett (31), who is Sales Director for a national furniture rental company.
